What are your favorite Christmas songs? Listening to Christmas music can put you in the Christmas spirit.
Good Monday morning. Today is the last day before Christmas when all of the David's Garden Seeds® staff will be here. Starting tomorrow, some of our people will be off every day this week. So we have to give out our Christmas gifts and bonuses to them today. Unfortunately, David and I have early morning doctor appointments in San Antonio plus David is not feeling well. Once we get back, we will hand everything out, including already written paychecks and he can rest.
Turns out David is feeling pretty good today. We went to the doctor this morning in San Antonio and he took great care of us as he always does. We ate lunch and I came over to the store while a family was in here shopping. I took care of them so Linda could go to lunch. Matthew gave them a tour.
The bonus checks are waiting in David's office for him to get there. We need to wait for them all to get back from lunch.
So what are your favorite Christmas songs? There are so many old Christmas songs as well as church Christmas songs that I love. I grew up going to church so every December, the only songs we sang at church three times a week were Christmas hymns. Joy To The World, The First Noel, O Little Town Of Bethlehem, O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, Away In A Manger, and many more are still favorites today.
When I was a kid in school, each December we would sing On The First Day of Christmas, Here We Come A Caroling, Jingle Bells, Deck The Halls, and Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. Of course, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town is another big one. In fact, my grandmother had a Christmas songbook with all of my favorite hymns and Christmas tunes that she let me play with all year long. I was always singing Christmas songs the whole year through. There is no better season.
Then I started learning Christmas songs from movies and TV specials like White Christmas, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Baby It's Cold Outside, and many others. I still love watching Christmas TV shows and movies from the 1940s and 1950s. Those are the best.
We had three sets of customers in a row so we could not do the checks...They finally left and we handed out the paychecks and the Christmas bonus checks at 2:30pm instead of at 1pm like we had planned. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night....Wait. It is only 2:48pm on December 20, my little brother's birthday. Happy Birthday, Tim.
Look at this beautiful King Radish that David pulled up while giving one family a tour. This is Jubilee holding the King Radish.
We got a nice harvest of radishes, tomatoes, okra, and parsnips. I also pulled the last lemon off of our lemon tree because it will be in the 30s tonight, found a ripe fig and ate it, and picked up two Asian pears that were blown off of the tree during the weekend's powerful wind storm. We got 14 eggs this afternoon.
This evening, our sweet next door neighbors brought us some delicious homemade cookies that are so good. We had a bag under the tree for them. I was so glad they came over.
Yellowstone came on streaming and the new 1883, a prequel to Yellowstone, also came on for the first time. Lots of Indians and blood. A lot of killings in the beginning. Why couldn't people leave each other alone in the old west? So much violence.
It got down to 39° Fahrenheit. It is so cold in this house. The heater is finally on but it feels like cold air is all over my legs...Merry Christmas! I had some of my chicken noodle soup for breakfast. It is delicious.
It has been a very busy day. I have been trying for over an hour to pay an important bill online. My guess is they are down but there is nothing online that indicates this. It takes me to a login and I try to login and then I get my session has ended and I never get in to pay the bill. I hope I remember to pay it on another day.
The air conditioner in the store will not open its vents so I am dying in here because it is so hot. I changed the remote batteries and it still will not work. We got the unit just this year so it should work fine but it won't.
I cannot tell you how frustrated I feel being so hot in here when it is only 66° outside and I am burning up.
I finally left the store and Linda fixed the air conditioner. She later showed me that there was a whirlwind symbol on my remote. When she took it away, the vents opened. Smart girl!
David and I have begun to add to our YouTube channels to build our brand. Please subscribe!
Today was another day with temperatures starting in the 40s that wound up in the 70s. Matthew shot some YouTube videos. I went out back to find some ripe luffa gourds. We have a ton of them growing but all of the ripe ones were already picked. Later in the day, someone put some on my front porch for me to strip since I was going to do that. I hate having others work in the back because anything you want to personally do, they have done, including things they were not supposed to touch...
So Matt, David and I drove to Hermann Sons in Hondo for lunch to meet with David's two brothers and sister for Christmas lunch. We had a good time. David went over the will with them. He then told them he resigned as an executor after he paid all of Dad's bills and gave them all cash. The rest of it concerns all of the property that none of them get so he dropped out. The person who gets it all can deal with that. I am disgusted that his parents did a family Brady Bunch and then decided that only one was good enough to have the land and homes. All of David's life until about ten years ago, he was told everything would be divided five ways and split evenly. Then the truth came out. One against four so they were never really a family. If they had done things the right way, all five would be happy instead of one.
So we got back to the farm and finished up the day. I let the dogs out and went to get the eggs and take care of the animals. I got back to the house and fed the cat and dogs. I called the dogs in and three came in. Molly did not, but that is not unusual. In fact, she enjoys staying outside, running around. So I washed the eggs and put them away. It was starting to get dark so I went out to put the chickens away. On the way back, I called for Molly and then I saw her lying on the ground in front of the kitchen window.
Folks, Molly passed away this afternoon. I just looked in shock. We knew she had congestive heart failure which was a shock. She was only two years old and loved to tear things apart. The vet put her on some new medicines and they seemed to be helping. She was eating and running around and we thought she was getting better. But it all came to an end. After I got over the shock, I had to let David know. He was still in his office. I decided to go tell him instead of calling.
Molly is David's favorite. She was constantly sitting on David and David loves her. I went over and put my arm around David and told him. He asked me if I was sure. My heart broke to have to tell him so, yeah, I was pretty sure. He immediately went to check. He loaded her on the back of the truck and took her to the top of the hill. He put her in the shed until morning since it was just about dark. So sad. He cried a lot and I did, too.
I personalized these cute elves for the grandkids and put the star on their hats. I had a very difficult time. This was only my second time to use the Cricut. I need to start using it every day so I can make money with it.
Good morning! Some of the guys just buried Molly up on the hill. David is so sad. Goodbye Molly! You had a wonderful six months with us.
The day is very foggy and cool at 50° and should be in the 80s by the end of the day.
Shayleigh brought sausage, potato, and egg tacos this morning for our final day of work before Christmas. They were delicious. Yes, we are closed tomorrow for Christmas Eve.
Linda is off today as she had some days left to use or lose so I am on my own at the store. It is 9am and we are open for business. Come on by.
Turns out Jay and Matt have ordered lunch for everyone. Yay! I am in the store listening to Christmas songs on Alexa. She keeps changing them in the middle of Christmas songs. That is weird. So far, no customers. But, in the good news department, we have sold two gift certificates online, one for $50.00 and the other for $75.00. Isn't that great? I just decided to put gift certificates up not even two weeks ago.
I love the Christmas songs from when I was little. One that I remember is Silver Bells. Another is O Holy Night. What are yours?
This morning, it started out quite foggy, even before daylight you could tell. It's Christmas Eve! Are you so excited?
Today, David's Garden Seeds® was closed, including the farm store. David and I went to Walmart early and picked up some last minute things for Christmas. I washed laundry, Christmas wrapping, baking, and folded laundry.
Our manager, Jay, gave us some pork tamales yesterday. In Texas, it is not Christmas without tamales. So we have just had a nice dinner of tamales, Mexican rice, and corn while we are watching Scrooged. I am about to cut up some lemon squares that I baked for dessert.
I have to say straight up that I never hated any Christmas songs until the invention of that horrible and worst of all Christmas songs, Christmas Shoes. I heard it the first time years ago now and I cried. Christmas is supposed to be bright and cheery, not sad and horrible. I despise that song, don't you? I know my friend, Jon Acuff, does. Every time I read one of his posts about what a horrible song that is, I am in 100% agreement with him. It should not be associated with Christmas and then they made the accompanying movie which is also horrible....
Merry Christmas! I woke up at 5:30am to the sound of coffee grinding so I got up. I fed the indoor animals and as soon as there was light, I went outside and fed everyone else. David is in his new sauna now. I opened one gift, a retro gift that I had as a kid-a ViewMaster. It is cool. I made eggs and drank away all of the coffee. David always prolongs Christmas by doing other things. Last year, it was 4pm before we got to open gifts. We had company. Today, there is no company except for our son, Matthew, who is coming over for Christmas dinner at 6pm.
It is nice to have a few days off from the hustle and bustle of employees, customers, delivery people, contractors, etc. We need to take time to think about what Christmas is. Christmas is when God sent his Son as a baby to come into our world and live among us. He grew up, taught us a lot, and then was killed for doing what God wanted Him to do. He took all of our sins upon His shoulders, was crucified and then on the third day, was raised to life. Now He is the Savior of the world. Believe on Him and you will be saved. He is the only way to Heaven per the Bible, God's holy Word. This is the message of Christmas-Jesus.
Svengoolie was a recent replay so we skipped it and watched a TV show that we are working on now. We had prime rib and it was tasty.
What Christmas songs are you listening to right now? Silent Night and O Holy Night are good ones for the Christmas message.
This morning we got up at zero dark thirty and got ready to make a four hour trek over to West Texas to have Christmas with Jeremy and his family and to bring back our granddaughter, Holley.
We left at about 7:15am and the fog was thick as peanut butter or pea soup, depending on which one you like. Note the reference to Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, one of my all time favorites that I have been watching since I was five years old.
The fog stayed thick until we hit Bandera and then it was thinner...We finally hit Comanche somewhere close to 11am. We had a good visit and meal and then we unwrapped Christmas gifts.
About 1:30pm, we loaded into the truck and did not get home until 6:30pm. There were a lot of slow timers on the road and it seemed to take forever. I never want to get into a vehicle again, I am so sick of sitting in one.
In the evening, as the sun started to go down, I tried to get a photo as we were still driving and trees and hills kept getting in the way. I finally got one.
We got home and Holley found a pile of presents under the tree addressed to her and a stocking. I don't know how that happened. She opened them and played for most of the night. I made her some chicken nuggets and fried eggs. We did not play any Christmas songs.
