The Top Ten Easiest Vegetables To Grow From Seed

The Top Ten Easiest Vegetables To Grow From Seed Set is a brand new seed set that David created recently. I will be going over each vegetable this week. Even if you are brand new to gardening, if you follow our germination tips, you can have success at growing your own food which is a healthy way to live.

You will notice that there are no tomatoes on this list. That is because tomatoes are a bit more complicated. David took the ten tastiest, simplest to grow veggies and made a set for the beginner gardener to try out gardening and find that it is for everyone.

The skill of knowing how to grow food is one that every American should have. Unfortunately, we cannot depend on schools to teach gardening. Most people no longer learn how to garden from parents or grandparents. It used to be passed down from generation to generation.

Here is the link to our brand new seed set, The Top Ten Easiest Vegetables To Grow From Seed, that has been designed with the beginner gardener in mind. Now, let's take a look at each of the ten vegetables that make up this set.

I also have some of these sets in our Farm Store. Right now, they are on sale for $14.99!

It's been keeping the chickens warm during the cold spell.

Good Monday morning! It is 50° but the high will be 55° and they are calling for rain. We could definitely use rain. We want a nice, wet spring so we have gorgeous wildflowers again this year. Last year, they were the prettiest in five years!

We are still having to haul water out to the animals because we won't be able to have the busted pipes fixed until later in the week. It is so inconvenient, just like when I first got chickens and had to carry gallon jugs out every single day until we installed water pipes all the way out there. Matt is working right now on running some long hoses out there to make it easier for us.

It stayed chilly all day long with a few sprinkles. We had several customers and lots of deliveries. The orders poured in all day long. Every time I closed an order, I got an order so it looks like I did nothing all day long.

I wrote paychecks and we got W2s today so if you worked for us at all in 2024, those will go out in tomorrow's mail.

Tuesday, January 28, 2025

Good evening! It has been a very busy day. I had a not-so-good night after hearing some not-so-good news last night. When I got up, David wanted breakfast. I made it and then I took the time to mail out seven W2s from 2024 to employees who left us. After the fun of that was over, I printed out orders. Then I cleaned up a few rooms for the housekeeper, unloaded the dishwasher and then reloaded it with last night's dishes...Yes, I was too lazy to unload them and reload them last night because the dishwasher did not finish until about 9pm. Then, I unloaded the freeze dryer.

It was almost 9am by this time and so I decided to get dressed and ready for the day. That is when the store doorbell went off and our first customer arrived. We were not even open yet and David called me. I could not go out because I wasn't even presentable.

About five minutes later, I got outside in the cold and waltzed on in to find Matt helping the customer. I took over so Matt could get back to his job.

Then I started filling orders. Shortly thereafter, David took Pamela and Sue Ellen to the groomer. He did not take Mr. Trump.

The housekeeper did not arrive until around 11am. I had a steamer meal and then David and I left the farm to go get animal feed and visit the print shop in Pleasanton.

On the way back, we got a phone call from a lady looking for eggs. We told her we had some.

We got back and I grabbed our new license for 2025 to sell plants so I could hang it in the Farm Store. The lady who called about the eggs pulled in right then. She called someone and told the person that we had ten dozen eggs. The person on the other end of the phone told her to take them all. She asked me if it was okay. I said absolutely. So she bought all ten dozen for $4.50 a dozen. I was thrilled because I was sold out for the day.

It was chilly all day and the fog started moving in during the afternoon.

This evening, David, Matt, and I had a business meeting with four other business owners. We met at the new IHOP in Lytle. It was our first time to go. The service was good and so was the food. One of the couples could not make it after all. So we had a good meeting, all thinking of ways to promote each other in our businesses. We all sort of sell relatable items but not the same things.

When we left the meeting, the fog was pretty thick. It was a little scary and I am glad I was not driving.

It's 9pm and I am finally able to get on the computer and do some of the things that should have been done this morning. It has been a very long day and I am cold and tired.

Eggs

Come by early in the morning to get first crack at the eggs from our chickens. We collect them every evening.Come by early in the morning to get first crack at the eggs from our chickens. We collect them every evening.

I would like to start off by saying that I don't get out much. Usually, I leave the farm once or twice a week because we are always working. So yesterday when that lady bought all of my eggs, I was so excited. Then I had dinner with friends last night who also sell eggs. One of them told me I should be charging a whole lot more because there is another egg shortage. They get $7 a dozen. They also said the stores barely have any eggs. When I had mine at $5 two years ago, I could barely sell any so I lowered the price down to $4 and then I could sell them.

We have been getting lots of emails from people around the country wanting information on our eggs. Some want us to ship our eggs to places like Colorado, New Mexico, and different cities here in Texas. Yesterday morning, I raised my eggs to $4.50 a dozen because of all the fuss and I was excited that I sold them all at the new price. Then I heard all of the egg info last night...A bit of deflation...

Back to today, I have been reading articles about the egg shortage and our local Walmart has organic eggs for $5.78 and $6.32. My eggs are absolutely delicious and most of them are large. I have raised my price to $6 a dozen this morning. If the shortage continues, I may have to raise prices again. The chicken feed we use is not cheap; the cost is about $19 a bag. We also give our chickens fresh greens which they love.

Five years ago, when I first got chickens, someone told me that it must be nice to get free food. I said, "What are you talking about? Chicken feed is not free and it is not cheap." We have 45 chickens and they eat a lot!

My birds are finished molting now and they are laying very well. This morning, I have three dozen eggs that will be for sale for $6 a dozen. First come, first served.

Update: I now have just one dozen eggs left for today as of 10:15am. If you want some today, come soon!

The fog is still pretty thick and everything is wet. You can pick up a Top Ten Easiest Vegetables To Grow From Seed Set in our Farm Store today. The fog moved in thicker all morning. Somewhere around noon, it cleared up but the mist lasted all day. The temperature got up to 70° today. We had a few customers in the Farm Store. For most of the day, I filled orders.

The animals are doing well. Trixie still has not had her baby. I just reviewed this past fall's blog articles and the first time I mentioned Trixie being pregnant was on my birthday, November 17. I guess we will have a baby sometime within the next month. I believe Alice is also pregnant but she is smaller than Trixie.

Good morning. I am sure by now that you have heard of the awful crash of an American Airlines jet with a Black Hawk helicopter over Washington DC. I wonder what on earth was going on with the helicopter pilot.

It is 63° this morning and the high should be 76°. I heard it pour around 4am and it should be raining this morning around 8am.

Sometime today, we need to go pick up some printing for the vegetable conference we will be attending next week. We will be attending the 40th Anniversary of our Fort Bend Regional Vegetable Conference taking place February 6, 2025 at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds. We will not be allowed to sell anything but we can give out free bags of seeds as well as free samples of our delicious pecan coffees to drink.

This afternoon, Sue Ellen and Pamela have their annual vet appointment in Devine, complete with shots that could come close to bankrupting me. Fun times.

This is after the exam. They both chilled out after a few minutes and enjoyed the ride away from the vet's office. This is after the exam. They both chilled out after a few minutes and enjoyed the ride away from the vet's office.

At 1:45pm, we loaded up the truck and headed for the vet's office. Pamela weighs 50 pounds and her sister, Sue Ellen, weighs 47 pounds. They are now three years old. We got them from the Atascosa shelter on March 22, 2022 (David's birthday), when they were three months old. That is what David wanted that year.

The girls were a bit scared as always when they go to the vet. They had the full works, a bunch of shots, tests, and an exam that they did not like. The vet was so good with them. Then came the kicker. The bill with the heartworm and flea chewies that are good for six months came to almost $900. That is freaking insane. They are dogs, not humans. I knew it would be bad. Of course, it is the six month chewies that really drove the price up. They were half of the bill and they only last for six months.

After my sticker shock, we drove to the printer place in Pleasanton and David got the work they did for him for next week's vegetable conference.

We got back to work and before long, it was 5:30pm. Matt and I went out to take care of the animals. We are still having to haul water since it rained on Wednesday so the guy couldn't fix the pipes. Now he is out of town again. It will have to wait until next week.

So I was in the goat pen situating the girls and Matt went back into Norton's pen. Norton started exiting to get me. Matt caught him by the legs as his hands were full of water and I ran for the gate.

Around 6pm, I went in the house to make dinner. We watched Hell's Kitchen pre-finale round and the guy I wanted to win, the only one who didn't look like a freak, got tossed to the curb. Now, I really don't care which one of the two left wins. I can just tell you that looking at them, I would not care to eat anything that either one of them has touched. I mean, we are talking food here. This was the worst season of contestants ever and, believe me, I have watched them all.

Sunset was so pretty tonight as I was going in from almost being gored by Norton.Sunset was so pretty tonight as I was going in from almost being gored by Norton.

Good morning. It is 45° out there but it should get up to 77°. One of our chickens has been hobbling around. We looked it up and she has bumblefoot so we need to deal with that this morning, our first time.

No babies yet. Matt is rolling all of the plastic back up on the coops since the below freezing temperatures are gone for a while.

We went out to treat the chicken's foot. We will do more this evening. Poor chicken baby.

It turned out to be a beautiful day with blue skies. There was a constant breeze throughout the entire day. It is now 4pm. I have had several customers and the store is pretty bare. I restocked a bunch of peppers and now one of our team members is restocking. I took care of all of the customers and mailed out a lot of orders.

Our two team members stayed late and restocked the store for tomorrow. That was so nice of them both.

I made an egg casserole with breakfast sausage for dinner. It was so good.

Good morning. It is 39° this morning. I have to carry water out again to the animals. Hopefully, they are doing well because Matt is not here to help me today.

Last Saturday, I was sick and we had more customers out here than we have ever had on a Saturday in January. Here it is February and cold. I wonder if we will have any...

I was hoping for warmer temperatures to feed the animals in this morning. Can you believe January is over already?

We had several customers but not half as many as last Saturday. I got some self inking stamps in from Vistaprint today. One worked, one jammed. It took me quite a while, but I finally fixed the jammed one and in the process, I now have blue ink all over my hands! I filled some orders but I think I only mailed two out because the mailman came around 11:30am.

I made a Walmart order and it should be here very soon but I have heard nothing from Walmart except that they received the order.

The temperature got up to 78° and it is now 76° at 5:30pm. I sold out of my eggs today but I will have more on Monday so don't despair! The funny thing is that I have sold more eggs this week at $6 a dozen than I ever did when they cost $5. Isn't that interesting?

Please like and subscribe on YouTube and come visit us at our Farm Store! The music on our TV ad was written, played, and sung by our son, Matthew Schulze. You can meet him when you come to the farm. He just might give you a tour. Ask him to grab a guitar and sing our jingle that he wrote.
