There has been so much talk about the 2020 Christmas Star that will happen tonight, December 21, 2020. I have been watching for weeks as the two planets get closer and closer. They say that Jupiter and Saturn have not aligned like this for 800 years. I am excited to see it. You will be able to see it 45 minutes after sunset in the western sky tonight. I have been seeing one bright planet and one duller planet moving across the sky toward each other since the end of November.
Good morning! Happy First Day of Winter! I think everyone all over is excited about seeing what is called the Christmas Star tonight. I truly believe that God created a special star for the first Christmas that lasted for two years until the Wise Men found little Jesus in a house there in Bethlehem.
If you thought (as I did for many years) that the Wise Men showed up the night that Baby Jesus was born in the stable, think again. I know, many Christmas cards and plays show that it happened that way, but the Bible reads that the Wise Men entered the house where Jesus was. Herod killed all the babies age two and under because they estimate that Jesus was about two years old when the Wise Men got to Jerusalem asking where the King of the Jews was located and they did not mean Herod.
I am excited about it being Christmas week, not for presents anymore like when I was young, but for the holy celebration of our loving Heavenly Father sending His precious son to earth to redeem us from sin. Yesterday, as I was singing familiar Christmas hymns during church, so many of the words hit me that God prepared for our redemption at the beginning of the world. He loves us and had us in mind as He created our earth. He wants to be with us for eternity so He had to come up with a plan because He is holy and we are sinful creatures. He came up with a plan--the plan of salvation through the blood Jesus shed on the cross at Calvary. That is Christmas!
Today is payday so I had to write checks for everyone. Our manager, Jay, will be off for the rest of the year after Wednesday so Matthew is shadowing him for the week.
I got the last of David's Christmas gifts in the mail today so now I have to wrap one more thing. Our big Christmas potluck is on Wednesday for work. Not sure what I will make yet. The theme is supposed to be Italian.
I collected the eggs and Matthew helped me put more purple medicine on the pecked chickens. It got dark and I put the chickens away. Then we all went out to see the Christmas
Star. There it was in the lower western sky but honestly, Saturn was still to the right (a tiny bit) of Jupiter. When I took photos, they merged as one but it was not very bright in the sky, certainly not bright enough to keep the Magi traveling for two years to find the Christ child in my opinion.
Good Tuesday morning. I spent most of the morning cleaning up the house because we will be having company from Friday through Sunday in different groups. Then I went to the store only to discover a lot of noises coming from outside behind the store. Nacho and a helper are putting up skirting today around the store. It is so loud!
I have had a chance to look online to see many photos of last night's Christmas star. Some look really cool, sort of like what you see on a Christmas card. I am not sure how they made the star look so bright unless they used filters.
I need to bake cookies for tomorrow's Christmas potluck tomorrow for David's Garden Seeds®. It should be fun. The theme is Italian. I will be making an array of Christmas cookies.
Today at work, I have been making website changes and filling some Etsy orders for our new David's Garden Seeds® store on Etsy.
I tried looking for the Christmas star in the sky this evening, but there were too many clouds. I couldn't see any stars.
I baked seven types of cookies and finished up around 10pm and collapsed into a chair in the den and put my feet up. Then I fell asleep for a while, woke up at the end of an episode of Fear The Walking Dead Season 4 and then went to bed.
Good Wednesday morning. It is overcast and there was some drizzle while I was walking between buildings. Today is our Christmas Pasta Potluck at David's Garden Seeds®. It is also the final day of work this week as we are giving our team off for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so they get a four day weekend!
We ate a delicious lunch with all kinds of pasta dishes and desserts. I am stuffed out of my mind and feeling a bit miserable right now. I never even got dessert...
I went to get the eggs a bit early and two hens are sitting in the nesting boxes blocking me from getting at least six eggs. The chickens turned 34 weeks old today. Matthew got the rest of the eggs for me. He is so good with the chickens. They continue to peck each other so we gave them an early Christmas purple spray.
We are shutting down today at 4pm. Merry Christmas and we are closed tomorrow to prep for holiday company.
I tried to see the Christmas star but the clouds blocked it. So many photos show the Christmas star bright in the sky but it was definitely not bright here.
Well, here it is once again--Christmas Eve. It was a blessing to have off so I could clean up the house a bit before the company gets here. I laid out a few things to prep for tomorrow but not too much. I did a lot of laundry.
Yes, our David's Garden Seeds® team has off today and tomorrow with pay.
I took meal worms to the chickens this afternoon. They absolutely love them. My egg collection is going down but I have read that chickens decrease their egg production in the winter.
No Christmas star again this evening. We keep having clouds.
Merry Christmas! David and I got up and started cooking. His father and two brothers were supposed to come. David smoked a turkey breast in the new grill he got for Christmas. I cooked a ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and vermicelli salad. I also made a strawberry cheesecake yesterday for dessert.
They got here around 11:30am and David's oldest brother, who said he was definitely coming, was not with them. They went to pick him up and he had his pajamas on and refused to come. We will not be inviting him to anymore holidays. This is his fourth holiday in a row where he says he will come and then doesn't show up. If I knew he wasn't coming, I would have made less food.
So we had a good meal but the stuffing was dried out a bit because the turkey took an hour longer to smoke than we thought. The meat was delicious and David did an excellent job smoking the turkey.
After the company left, we finally got a chance to open our Christmas gifts. It was 4pm.
Then we cleaned up and got ready for round two which will take place tomorrow when the new company gets here. Again, I looked for the Christmas star but could not see anything.
This morning, I cleaned and prepped for the new set of Christmas company. Then we headed into San Antonio to meet Jeremy and his family for lunch at Salt Grass Steak House.
After that, it was back to the farm to have Christmas all over again. The tree was packed with gifts for them. They all seemed to have a good time.
Holley and I went out late in the afternoon to collect eggs and
stopped by the bunny hutch. There was a dead bunny, the littlest one. It
was so sad. I had to call David out to deal with it.
Then Jeremy and Felisha went out on a date and we got to play grandma and grandpa. Of course, we watched Svengoolie while the kids watched A Very Mickey Christmas.
This morning, we all got up and got ready for church. Then Jeremy and Felisha loaded all of the presents from yesterday into their truck and headed over to our church with the kids.
The grandchildren were so excited to go to Children's Church and they loaded the kids up with Christmas cake and candy. It was a good church service.
After church, we stopped at a Mexican cafe in Devine and ordered our food. We waited for quite a while and finally the food showed up without silverware. We told two girls three times that we needed utensils. One of them finally brought them so we could eat. I ordered the flauta plate and it was good.
After that, the company left to go home. I started cleaning up the house and doing laundry. The chickens are not giving many eggs. I got 14 today. The chickens are still pecking each other so we sprayed them again this afternoon.
I tried to look for the Christmas star but it wasn't there due to clouds again.
