Don't you just love setting out and putting up all of the Christmas decorations? They can make your home or office feel cozy and warm in the cold! You can make your own or go to the store and get some new ones in the colors of your choice. I just use all the colors and it works.
Scattered across the front of the David's Garden Seeds® Farm property, we have lights, wooden pieces, and Christmas blow ups, Nativity scenes, and trees and deer. We love Christmas around here.
Good Monday morning! Can you believe it is time to put your Christmas decorations up again? A lot of ours are up around the property. I was going to finish over the weekend when the company went home, but that did not happen. Yesterday at church, I started feeling bad. My head started hurting and my throat felt scratchy during the service. My grandchildren were coughing and sneezing during the days they were here for Thanksgiving. I was told it was allergies but you don't catch allergies.
I went home, took headache pills and kept my headache all day into the night. Now here it is Monday morning and I am sick. No fever, but my head hurts, I am coughing, and I am so tired. Looks like I won't be going with David today and I won't be going to work either. If your kids are sick, keep them home. Old folks who have a lot of things to do don't want to get sick.
I need to put up more outdoor things as well as decorate my house, but who feels like it when they are sick?
David left to meet with the attorney to probate his father's will. He has a two hour drive one way and I am thinking it will be a hostile gathering from what I have heard from family members. I am praying it is not hostile.
Matthew is pulling orders. Jay is back today after being out almost two weeks. Linda is running the store. One of our dogs has a vet appointment at 3pm so Matt will take her. I am staying in, away from everyone so I don't pass this cold onto our workers.
A few of the guys are out in my backyard doing various tasks that David told them to complete. I hate that because I can't even go out in my backyard right now. It is freezing out there so I don't want to go out anyway, but I hate that I cannot.
I am making turkey noodle soup because I think it will help me feel better.
So the will meeting went badly. That is all I will say...
On one of my social media accounts for David's Garden Seeds®, I received a message saying, "How is your store doing?" It is from someone I do not know. Our store is doing great! Our online store is doing even better. Why don't y'all come by at 5029 FM 2504 in Poteet, Texas, Monday through Friday, from 9am to 5pm and see our beautiful farm store? You can see our beautiful Christmas decorations and you will see that our store is doing great.
For future reference, if you do not have a will, get one. If you have a will and decide that you want certain possessions to go to certain people, don't write it on a piece of notebook paper because that won't stand up in court. Don't have it notarized and witnessed because that won't stand up in court unless the attorney recognizes it as testamentary intent.
Go to a lawyer and pay the $300 an hour for him
to add that to the will you have or draft you a new one. It seems to be a
ridiculous thing but if you don't, the people you want to have certain
things will not get them. The court will not allow it. This is exactly what is going on right now.
Also, if you Brady bunch two families together, have everything sold and divided up equally instead of breaking apart a family that has spent over 40 years together because one side of the family gets everything. Talk about a lot of resentment, anger, and favoritism because that is exactly what is going on when this type of thing happens. Be responsible and do the right thing by all of your children. Or, if you don't think you can, then don't marry the person with a bunch of kids that you don't want in your life. Don't remarry until they have all left home.
Molly went to the vet this afternoon for a follow up. The vet says she is losing weight, has more chest congestion and more fluid around her heart than the last visit and she will probably die. She wanted to try a heart medication so we are trying that.
The reason Molly is
losing weight is because she hardly eats anything. So this evening, I
made her some eggs and she wolfed those down.
This afternoon, I discovered that Molly with her furosemide pills peed all over my bed and pillows. I discovered this at 3:15pm and by 10:30pm, I was still washing and drying bedding and pillows. What a fun day!
Good Tuesday morning! I woke up in the night with a sore throat and cough so I had to get up and take some medicine. I was freezing and my comforter was still in the dryer when I went to bed last night. I put a second blanket on instead.
The first thing I noticed is that it is very foggy again outside. I do love the fog!
I made some eggs for all of the dogs and put one in each dish. Molly got to them first and ate all four eggs. She eats her dog food sometimes. I change it up but she still doesn't like any of them.
I need to put up some Christmas decorations today. David has a job interview at 9am but I guess I will miss that since I am sick.
I went to the job interview but the candidate was 40 minutes late. David asked him why he was late. The guy shrugged and said he did not know there was a time. Now we use an employment agency for our new hires as it takes a lot of the guesswork out of hiring. We know she gave this candidate a time to be here. He was asked about his last job. He said he was let go from his previous employer because he got in trouble. When I asked about that, he changed his story to there were too many people so they let me go. David is going to try him out. I have my doubts. We asked him when he could start. He said tomorrow, that he had things to do today. He also said someone would have to drive him everyday because he does not have a vehicle. He said he was glad for the job and will see us tomorrow. David told him specifically that our workday starts at 8am and that means don't show up at 8:01am or after. He said okay.
We went into Pleasanton this morning to do some errands. One of them was for David to have bloodwork done at any Quest Lab. There is a new one in the Walmart in Pleasanton. In San Antonio, we just walk in. In Pleasanton, they would not see David without an appointment so he did not get that done. He got the papers he needed from the bank and the part he needed for the lawn mower from a John Deere dealer and we headed home.
Nacho and his helper are here putting two fans in my greenhouse and a foundation down in the backyard for the new pool. It has not yet arrived but at least we bought one before they ran out of them.
I was supposed to receive the final piece of my Shopify selling system today after months of waiting but it did not come. FedEx changed their story from early this morning. Who knows when it will come? They sure don't.
Happy December 1! I cannot believe it is already here. My tree is still not decorated. There are plastic bins of decorations in the house and on the back porch. I feel more sick today than earlier in the week. My nose is clogged but no fever. I need to get the house in order and decorate.
Nacho and his helper are here again today working on the pool platform. David said the pool is set to be delivered today.
David is going to the podiatrist this morning after having a company meeting. I am staying in the house so as not to pollute our people.
Well, the guy we hired yesterday decided not to come today at 8am. He did not give us a call. It is now 11:42am and we still have not seen him. He is not currently working per the interview yesterday and could not bother to shop up to work for $12 an hour today. $12 an hour out here in Poteet is a lot of money for working in a garden. He is the second guy who we hired like that who has not shown up. I guess they do it for the unemployment benefits. To keep getting them, you have to do so many interviews a month. He blew what could be a good place for him to work.
The new guy called our manager at noon and asked if he could still come in today. He was told no. He offered no excuse for not showing up and for not calling four hours earlier. He then asked if he could come in tomorrow. No! Why is it that no one wants to come to work? Why do they think it is okay to show up four hours late or not until the day after they were supposed to work?
Nacho has almost finished the pool deck.
Nacho finished the pool deck and set the pool up. It came today and it looks really good.
This evening, one of our farmer friends said he had 400 extra strawberry plants. We drove over to his place to get them so the guys will be busy tomorrow planting them all. It was dark so I noticed there were not very many homes with Christmas decorations. Most of the time when we saw a home with Christmas lights, they were white lights. David hates that. To me, there is nothing special about the white lights because we see them every single day in our regular lights. We like to see the colored lights used as Christmas decorations.
Good Thursday morning! It is foggy again. I had a miserable night. My nose kept clogging up so I could not breathe. I spent several hours on the couch. I now sound terrible and there is coughing. My assistant is not coming in today and the guys are out planting so I am not sure how we will cover the store. If I go out there sounding like this, people will run for the hills.
There is another job interview at 9am today. I won't be there because I sound so much worse with my cold than I did before.
The final piece of my Shopify Selling System finally showed up late this afternoon after spending most of the week in San Antonio per the internet. We are an hour outside of San Antonio and FedEx comes here every single day, Monday through Friday, but for some reason, my package from Shopify, which I ordered in August, sat in a FedEx warehouse from Saturday until this morning when the spirit moved someone to put it on a truck and drive it out here!
Good news from the chicken coop! The chickens are laying more eggs again so there are two cartons of eggs available for purchase tomorrow morning to whoever gets there first at 9am.
Good wet Friday morning! It is 68° and the high will be 82° today. It was foggy early this morning again but it is all gone now. I woke up in the night coughing my head off, unable to breathe. I sneeze a lot as well. I did not sleep well at all. I am miserable so yes, another day of missed work. My ears hurt and I feel awful. Also, I get to miss yet another attorney meeting today.
It is now 2:45pm and hot and sunny outside at 83° Fahrenheit. I have been having a miserable day with ear pain and ear popping as well as a stuffy nose. Fun times. David had a good meeting with our personal attorney regarding his father's estate. He just called me from San Antonio and told me what she said. We feel much better about it all now. Our attorney is awesome. How did we meet her? She came into our San Antonio store several years ago to buy seeds and we have been clients ever since.
My cough has gotten deep and my nose is continually clogged. My ears keep popping. Fun times.
Good Saturday! I have been working and Christmas shopping online today. I paid all of the bills. First thing this morning, I went over to my closed store and set up the rest of the Shopify payment system that came in this week. I fed the fish and then went out back and took care of the other animals, hacking as I went along.
I tried to start a load of laundry but my washing machine says I cannot do any laundry until I wash the washing machine. I thought I had one more pack of washing machine cleaner, but I do not. I have asked my son to bring me some so hopefully he will so I can do laundry later. I hope he remembers...This is the second time this new washer has done this to me. You would think I'd have learned the first time. LOL!
So I just read online that I could put vinegar and baking soda in the washer and run the wash machine cycle. That is what I just did. I had no idea.
My new TIHWB T-shirts just came. If you don't know who TIHWB is, they are a YouTube family called This Is How We Bingham. They are a fun family. I also got Karen Grassle's new book, Bright Lights Prairie Dust in the mail. That is Ma (Caroline) from Little House On The Prairie. I am anxious to read that.
I need to go out front and pull down some Thanksgiving decorations and put up some more Christmas decorations. It is now 3:30pm and I still have not done that. I never got around to doing this.
This evening, we had pizza and watched the strange Svengoolie movie, The Wandering Eye. It was very weird.
Good Sunday morning! I slept fairly well considering I am still sick. This is day eight for me. I had to go to the couch at 3:30am as I could not breathe. The cat jumped up and started molesting my left hand. Once she stopped that, I was able to sleep until after 6:30am.
I fed all of the indoor and outdoor animals and then I finally took down the Thanksgiving decorations. I need to put up more Christmas decorations.
I spent most of the afternoon on the couch with movies playing and me trying to rest, hacking my head off. Fun, fun times. When I planned this page on Christmas decorations back in November, I had no idea I would be sick this week so I have not been able to get out and take photos like I had hoped. Our farm looks great but I was hoping to do better. Come on out to the farm. Drive by at night for the full effect. Merry Christmas as you get ready with Christmas decorations and all that the season has to offer.
